The Mets’ loss on Wednesday night clinched another season with a losing record. Chris Schwinden struggled early, hurt by some unlucky hits and bizarre fielding plays. However, he battled and left the game in line for his first major league victory.

The Mets were able to dig out of a 3-0 hole in the third inning thanks to a crucial error by Rafael Furcal. Schwinden got his first major league hit and Josh Satin drove in his first runs in the majors during the 4-run rally.

But when Collins turned to the bullpen, the move backfired again. Pedro Beato gave up a three-run homer to David Freese, and that was the ballgame.

The potential lasting impact of Wednesday’s game could be to Lucas Duda, who left the game with dizziness after hitting the right field wall in the first inning. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, but knowing the Mets’ luck with medical issues it might be safer just to shut him down until spring training.
