In the mailbox this week: Harrelson, Groat, Napoli

I’m still getting back cards that I mailed out during spring training.

Mike Napoli went 7-for-20 with two home runs and 10 RBI in the World Series last year for the Texas Rangers. So far in 2012, he’s already hit seven home runs in 18 games.

My other recently received autographs are from a pair of long-retired shortstops.

Bud Harrelson is a two-time All-Star and a member of the New York Mets Hall of Fame. Though he was known for his defense, I was surprised to learn that Harrelson only won one Gold Glove award during his career. After retiring as a player, Harrelson became a coach and manager for the New York Mets and is now a part-owner of the Long Island Ducks independent baseball team.

Dick Groat is an eight-time All-Star and was the National League MVP in 1960. He was also a college basketball star and played one season in the NBA.

What autographs have you gotten recently?

    1. It’s from a 1988 stadium giveaway sponsored by Kahn’s. It’s not really as common as the next year’s set (which was also available by mail if you sent in hot dog UPC codes and a shipping fee), but it’s not really rare either. I found a few of the coaches cards in a dime box at a baseball card show earlier this month. I still have to mail out Sam Perlazzo’s to see if I can get it signed.

      1. Thanks, Paul. I was so surprised that it was a Kahn’s set – I thought I had them all – that I went and looked in my 80’s/90’s binders to see which sets I was missing… and I’m not missing them. I’ve got the 1988 Kahn’s set, I’d just forgotten I had it.
        *Sigh*… I’ve got too many cards…
