2007 Topps Update & Highlights Rod Barajas autographed baseball card

Autographed Rod Barjas insert card from the 2007 Topps Update  set

Since he’s in town this week, here’s a Topps Certified Autograph Issue baseball card of Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Rod Barajas from the 2007 Update & Highlights set. Barajas spent most of the 2010 season with the New York Mets before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in August to free up playing time for Josh Thole.

While Barajas does appear on a baseball card in the 2010 Topps Update set as a Met, I haven’t been able to get a copy of it signed. This card, Barajas’ only certified autograph issue, is still representing him in my Mets autograph collection.

  1. Does it bother you to have an autograph of Barajas as a member of one of the Mets’ rival teams in your collection? I know I avoid Yankee and Red Sox autographs whenever posisble!

    1. Not really, because Barajas never made that much of an impact with either team. If I get a chance to upgrade to a signed copy of his Mets card, I will, but it’s not a priority. I’ve had chances to replace my Yankees Gary Sheffield autograph, but it wasn’t important enough to me to pay his show fee.

On the other hand, I would never have been able to use cards that showed Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry or David Cone as Yankees, even as placeholders. I’m happy I was able to get Mets cards of players like Willie Randolph (from a long-time Yankee collector, no less) and Tom Glavine, because you could say I’m not a fan of the teams they’re more associated with. 🙂
