Before Monday night’s game, Mets manager Terry Collins announced that his entire coaching staff would return next year.
I’m fairly ambivalent about the news. After watching too many games like last night’s 3-2 loss to the Miami Marlins where Mets pitchers walked nine and Mets hitters stranded 12 on base, it is tempting to call for jobs in the name of “accountability.”
But then again, these are the same coaches that put the Mets in a position to overachieve during the first half of the season.
It probably is for the best to bring back the whole staff – this way, filling coaching spots won’t distract GM Sandy Alderson from the more important task of re-making the roster.
