Former Mets Players To Attend Somerset County Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament

Former New York Mets players Art Shamsky, Jack Fisher, Tracy Stallard, Willie Randolph and Rick Cerone are among the celebrities who have committed to attend the 23rd annual Raymond L. Hughes Memorial Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament scheduled for Monday, May 6,at Neshanic Valley Golf Course  in Neshanic Station, New Jersey.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset County Park Foundation has announced that a registration is now open for foursome and individual player spots for the 23rd Annual “Raymond L. Hughes Memorial Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament” scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2013 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course on South Branch Road in Neshanic Station, NJ. Registration begins at 11:00 A.M. with lunch served. Tee off is scheduled for 12:15 P.M.

Individuals and corporate teams are invited to register at Green Knoll Golf Course on Garretson Road in Bridgewater and Neshanic Valley on South Branch Road in Neshanic Station.

The Pro-Celebrity is played with groups of five golfers with a celebrity joining each foursome. Among the early commitments for the 2013 event are former New York Yankees Sparky Lyle, Rick Cerone, Willie Randolph, and Tommy John; New York Giants Bart Oates, Karl Nelson, Jesse Armstead, Jeff Feagles,and Bill Ard; New York Jets Marty Lyons and Bruce Harper; Major League Baseball players including Mitch Williams, Art Shamsky, Dave Parker, Jack Fisher, Dan Plesac, Tracy Stallard; National Football League players Al Singleton, Kenny Schroy; and heavyweight boxer Gerry Cooney

The Pro/Celebrity tournament has raised in excess $900,000 for the Somerset County Park Foundation, supporting a variety of Park Commission programs with a majority of funding dedicated to the Therapeutic Recreation Department. Scholarships to Camp Okee Sunokee, a six-week summer day camp structured for children ages 6 through 13 who are classified with a learning disability or Asperger Syndrome, has historically been a primary beneficiary of the outing. Funds are also applied to park and recreation projects that may not otherwise be possible to fund without the support of the Pro-Celebrity event.

“The Pro/Celebrity tournament has increased in stature every year, attracting more professional athletes andmore community members and business people who enjoy a totally unique golfing experience on an exceptional golf coures,” stated Park Foundation Trustee and Event Chairman John Kitchen. “It’s a great day at a world-class golf course meeting and playing golf with world-class professional athletes.”

The event includes lunch, golf with one of the athletes, refreshments on the course, and the awards banquet. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Registration is on a first-come basis with a deadline of Friday, April 26, 2013. Pre-tournament registration is required, no registrants on day of tournament. Registration forms are available at all County golf courses, online at or by calling 908-369-1458, ext. 428.
