A pair of All-Star performances

Wow, David Wright and Matt Harvey couldn’t have put on a better audition for the National League All-Star Game if they were specifically trying to.

Wright became the first Mets player to have four extra-base hits in one game since Edgardo Alfonzo did it in 1999 and only missed out on hitting for the cycle because he didn’t have the single.

Harvey shut out the Phillies for six innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out six in a rain-shortened performance.

This is a victory to savor heading into tomorrow’s off-day.

    1. It might be wildly optimistic to say that the Mets are in the race at 12 games under .500, 11.5 games out of first place, and 12.5 behind the wild card leader. Nevertheless, Harvey and Wright are doing a lot to keep the Mets playing watchable baseball.
