The Trenton Thunder released their 2014 schedule today, and I’m again reminded that the Eastern League seems to have no rhyme or reason behind their scheduling decisions.
Trenton is in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division along with the Binghamton Mets, New Britain Rock Cats (Twins), New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays), Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) and Reading Fightin Phils.
In 2014, Portland and New Hampshire will each visit Trenton for 10 games, Reading visits for 8 games, Binghamton four 4 games and New Britain for 3.
Looking at the Western Division opponents, the schedule makes even less sense. Akron visits for 8 games, Altoona, Bowie, Erie and Richmond for 6 each, and Harrisburg for 4.
That’s right, Trenton has more home games against five of the teams in the other division than it does against two teams in its own.
At least the Binghamton Mets come in on a weekend next year…
