Butch Metzger played four four teams during a five-year major league career that lasted from 1974-1978.
In 1976, Metzger was co-voted the National League Rookie of the Year with his future Mets teammate, Pat Zachry. (Metzger went 11-4 with a 2.92 ERA, finishing a league leading 62 games for the San Diego Padres, while Zachry went 14-7 with a 2.74 ERA primarily as a starter for the Cincinnati Reds.)
At the start of the 1978 season, the Mets selected Metzger off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, but he struggled in New York. He finished what would turn out to be his final year in the major leagues with a 1-3 record and a 6.51 ERA, and was sold to the Philadelphia Phillies in July.
I wrote to Metzger in February and asked him to sign the 1991 Wiz Mets card that I sent; I got it back on Monday. He has a very limited number of baseball cards, and this is the only one that shows him in a Mets uniform,

Nice autograph Paul. I think we have both benefited well from the specialty Mets and Orioles sets that were released in ’91. At least our autograph collections have.

Thank you. If not for that 1991 set, I don’t think a project like this would be possible for the Mets. While you could always try to find index card autographs for the older players, too many of the current ones refuse to sign them so you wouldn’t be able to have a collection of similar signed items.
