Mets baseball card of the week: Dwight Gooden 2013 Topps 72-style mini

2013-Dwight-Gooden

Opening Day is less than one week away. In my lifetime, Doc Gooden made more Opening Day starts for the Mets (eight) than any other pitcher. He went 6-1, and the Mets were 7-1 in those games.

The baseball card pictured above is one of 100 mini-card inserts included in Topps Series 1 & 2 last year that showcase current and retired stars on a design inspired by the 1972 Topps set.

While I love the baseball card, seeing a photo from 1986 on a design from 1972 in a 2013 product makes my head hurt if I think about it too long.

(Note: if you see the baseball card image above with rounded corners, it is because my current blog theme displays all images that way. The card has standard 90-degree corners.)
