Watching the Binghamton Mets beat Trenton

I missed watching the New York Mets beat their ex-closer K-Rod on Friday, but I did get to see the Binghamton Mets score two runs on a strikeout in a victory over Trenton, so it kind of evens out.

The B-Mets are making their only visit to New Jersey this weekend, so I was happy to have the chance to watch prospects like Brandon Nimmo and Dilson Herrera in person. (Both patiently signed autographs for dozens of fans before the game, which was nice to see.)

Binghamton, currently in second place in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League, 4.5 games behind the Portland Sea Dogs, took an early 2-0 lead thanks to a rally started by former Newark Bear and Camden Rivershark Brian Burgamy.

Jayce Boyd added a monster home run to center field that had to travel over 400 feet to get out of the park.

But the memorable play happened in the top of the seventh inning. Darrell Ceciliani reached on a single and Nimmo walked, then they executed a double steal to take second and third. Herrera struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt, and was thrown out at first base. However, Ceciliani scored on the wild pitch and Nimmo went for third. A good throw probably would have gotten him, but Nimmo was able to score when the first baseman’s throw could not be caught.

Binghamton won, 6-1. I expect to be back in Trenton Sunday to watch the final game of the series.

  1. Overall, how were the B-Mets signing wise? My Brother went Thursday and said they were not that friendly.

    Thinking of going to tomorrow but may just settle for Somerset.

    1. I was impressed with them. I didn’t see anyone refuse to sign. Brandon Nimmo was one of the more in-demand guys, and he signed everything for all of the season ticket early admission folks after bp and then made sure to get everybody else before he went out to warm up. Dilson Herrera wouldn’t sign until after warm ups, but he did get everybody and was signing baseballs on the sweet spot for people who wanted him to.
