It took me a while to really get into Star Wars Rebels, a computer-animated television series set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope that airs on Disney X D. There have been cameos from Darth Vader, R2-D2 and C-3PO, Bail Organa and even Lando Calrissian, but the series tells the story of Ezra Bridger, Kanan Bridger and the rest of the crew of the Ghost, a cell in the still-forming rebellion against the Galactic Empire.
Hasbro has put out a handful of 3.75 inch scale figures, but they really didn’t put much support behind the show. They still haven’t released all of the main cast (Hera Syndulla is supposed to get a figure in one of the next Mission Series assortments), and good luck finding most of the ones that have come out.
But I did manage to get a couple of the Imperials this week. Agent Kallus is in charge of suppressing rebel activity on the Outer Rim world Lothal, and as you might imagine, he’s pretty bad at it.
This figure reminds me a bit of the AT-AT Commander from the original Kenner line… an imperial officer who’s just interesting enough to wear a little bit of armor, but not as cool as the rank-and-file troopers and pilots with their full armor or flight suits.
Hasbro tried to make Kallus a bit more play-friendly by packing him with a giant gun, which looks pretty silly given the figure’s limited five-point articulation design. But at least he did get a gun instead of a pointer..
The sculptor did a nice job of capturing Kallus’ likeness and making his uniform look sharp. Paint apps are minimal, but well done.
Tomorrow, I’ll take a look at the AT-DP Pilot (who I actually found at retail!)
