This will be short & sweet, because I only got one envelope back since my “Part 3” post.
RHP Vic Black, 26, was originally drafted by the New York Mets with a late-round pick in 2006 but did not sign. The Pittsburgh Pirates used a supplemental pick at the end of the first round of the 2009 draft to select him, and he began his pro career with the State College Spikes in the New York-Penn League that season.
The Mets acquired Black in August 2009 along with 2B Dilson Herrera for OF Marlon Byrd and C John Buck, one of the best trades Sandy Alderson has made as the Mets’ general manager.
Black was a useful contributor in the Mets bullpen last season and is being counted on again in 2015. He’s quickly becoming a fan favorite, known for riding the subway to from his Manhattan apartment to Citi Field in Queens and for playing online video games with fans.
On the back of the envelope used to return my cards, Black wrote “LGM!” – shorthand for “Let’s Go Mets!”
In case you missed it, here are Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of my spring training autographs posts.
Congrats on the success!

Vic Black came over to the railing, and generously signed autographs/posed for photos with my son and me. This happened at both Citi Field and at Citizens’ Bank Park in 2013-14.
Nice and friendly guy; hopefully Black will be part of something special this year in Flushing.

I saw Vic Black signing a ton of autographs in Philly during the two games I was there last year.
He does really seem to enjoy interacting with fans.
