I haven’t bought any baseball cards in the last month, but Brian from Play at the Plate made sure I’d have at least a representation of the Mets in this year’s Bowman set for my collection.
The National League has made adjustments to Jacob deGrom after his Rookie of the Year season, but he’s making adjustments to them too. deGrom is my favorite Mets starter to watch in 2015. David Wright and Dilson Herrera are both on the DL and who knows when they’re coming back… I’m pretty sure the Mets’ offense would be better if either player was getting the at-bats that have been going to Eric Campbell, Danny Muno and Ruben Tejada.
I saw Marcos Molina pitch for the Brooklyn Cyclones last year and he was impressive, but I always have a hard time figuring out whether minor league success will translate to the major league level. I’m not overly familiar with T.J. Chism… but this is a case of the Bowman “scouts” screwing up – after reaching Double-A in 2014, Chism is pitching for the independent Atlantic League’s Camden Riversharks this year.
Brian also included a few older cards. I scanned this Topps Chrome card of Wilmer Flores because it’s a refractor & because Flores has been one of the more productive hitters in the Mets’ lineup this year (when he makes contact, that is.) The Roberto Alomar card is a mini from a 2002 Fleer product. I’m not sure if Doubleheaders was an insert set or its own product line… anyone remember?
My friend Bart gave me an extra card he got signed by Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Blake Tekotte. Tekotte, 28, is back in Double-A this year after playing in the major leagues for parts of three seasons with the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox.
Thanks guys!
