You probably don’t remember Yunir Garcia unless you closely follow the Mets minor league system (or one of their minor league affiliates.)
Garcia is a Venezuelan who signed with the New York Mets organization as an 18-year-old in 1998. A light-hitting catcher, Garcia spent his entire playing career with the Mets. He retired after the 2006 season, but did briefly reach the Triple-A level.
In 2008, Garcia was hired to coach the Venezuelan Summer League Mets team. In 2010, he managed one of the Mets’ Dominican Summer League teams. Over the last five years, he’s been a coach for the Gulf Coast League Mets, Kingsport Mets and Brooklyn Cyclones teams, slowly working his way up the organizational ladder.
I got this baseball card from my friend Jeff, who likely got it signed while Garcia was a member of the Cyclones’ coaching staff last season.
