Reliever Antonio Bastardo has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the New York Mets.
I’ve been waiting to see what Yoenis Cespedes will do for the past few days even though I don’t really expect him to stay with the Mets, but strengthening the bullpen is important too.
Bastardo, 30, spent the first six years of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates after the 2014 season.
For his career, Bastardo has 388 strikeouts in 316.1 innings and has held opposing batters to a .199 batting average. Against lefties, Bastardo has been even better — they’ve hit just .178 against him.
I wrote to Bastardo at the Phillies spring training camp in 2011, but I did not get my card back until the beginning to the 2012 season. It’s interesting that he chose to sign the card in the small empty spot at the bottom rather than across the photo.

The NY tabloids will have a field day when his some of his meltdowns results in the Mets losing.

When I first saw this picture on Twitter, I had to click on it just to see the signature. There is a lot of wasted space on there. I wonder if he still signs this card the same way now.
