Spring Fever

Topps released checklist information for this year’s Spring Fever promotion today. It’s a way to help participating retailers move more Series One baseball cards – if you spend $20 between February 10th and February 21st, you’ll get a redemption card for a free five-card pack of Spring Fever cards, which can be redeemed between February 22 and February 29.

This will be the first time players like Zack Greinke, David Price and Todd Frazier are pictured with their new teams.

But of more interest to me, we’ve got three Mets in the 50-card base set, and three more in the limited autograph portion of the checklist.

The Mets in this year’s set are:

  • SF-10 Jacob deGrom
  • SF-18 Matt Harvey
  • SF-26 David Wright
  • SFA-DH Dilson Herrera (autograph)
  • SFA-KP Kevin Plawecki (autograph)
  • SFA-MRY Matt Reynolds (autograph)

Compare that to last year, when the Mets had one regular card and two limited autographs — World Series appearances certainly seem to help.

Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of this year’s generic design. I will probably not pursue the 2016 Spring Fever cards, but I wouldn’t mind snagging a copy of the Matt Reynolds autograph card if I can get it as an inexpensive upgrade to the 2012 Panini Elite Extra Edition autograph currently in my collection.
