The holiday season is for the young and the young at heart… and there are an awful lot of folks who can’t imagine decorating for Christmas without setting up a model train under their tree. For those of us who don’t have the space (or patience) to set up tracks, there are a number of places to go to see a full-scale layout.
The New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show is celebrating its 25th season, and will be open through January 16th if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet.
I always end up forgetting about the trains as I marvel at the New York City landmarks that have been recreated out of bark, seeds and other plant materials. New York’s baseball teams are represented by old Yankee Stadium… maybe one of these years, the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants or New York Mets will get their crack.

After Christmas, I ended up spending a few days in Pennsylvania. One of my stops was the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg, Pa. This layout is open year-round, more or less, and has been for the last 55 years. And yes, it also has a baseball field.

Did you have any baseball encounters in unexpected settings this holiday season?
I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, festive Festivus or whatever holiday(s) that you celebrate. May 2017 be filled with blessings for you and those who you love.
