Meet Todd Frazier & support Operation Shoebox NJ on Saturday, 1/23/2016

January 20 Update: This event has been postponed due to weather concerns.

Next Saturday, new Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier will be signing autographs to benefit Operation Shoebox New Jersey, a non-profit charity  that ships personal care packages to US troops deployed around the world.

Frazier, a 2015 All-Star and Home Run Derby champ, is a lifelong New Jersey resident who was part of the 1998 Toms River Little League World Champion team and played for Rutgers University before turning pro.

Pro Custom Solar will be hosting the charity event at Freehold Raceway Mall on Jan. 23 from noon until 2 p.m. Frazier will sign one flat item for a $20 donation. Memorabilia (a bat, jersey, etc.) will be signed for a $50 donation.

Red Sox players & prospects help raise money for the Jimmy Fund

January’s almost here, so that mean’s it’s time for Boston Red Sox players and prospects to help raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

The Jimmy Fund’s New Stars for Young Stars IX is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Jillian’s Boston. Appearing players are subject to change, but the planned lineup includes new Red Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski; pitchers Drake Britton and Rubby De La Rosa, who both spent time in the Boston bull pen in 2013, and top prospects Blake Swihart (#5 in the Red Sox system, according to Baseball America) and Mookie Betts (#7 in the Red Sox system, according to Baseball America).

Advance tickets are $89 per person and include buffet lunch and one autograph from all attending players. VIP tickets are $250 per person and include and include one of the first 30 spots in line, one autograph from all attending Red Sox players for the ticketholder and one guest, a Red Sox Jersey, lunch buffet, one guest ticket and one autograph from each player for guests.

Somerset Patriots’ toy drive is Saturday

The Somerset County Parks Commission is offering fans the chance to have their names engraved on personalized bricks at the entrance to TD Bank Ballpark, home of the Atlantic League's Somerset Patriots

The Somerset Patriots will hold their annual holiday toy drive at TD Bank Ballpark this Saturday, Dec. 7.

Fans are being asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to the Somerset Patriots Team Store . All toys will be donated to Foster Adoptive Family Services of New Jersey for those less fortunate.

Manager Emeritus Sparky Lyle and Manager Brett Jodie  will be at the event to meet fans, sign autographs, and take pictures from 10 a.m. to noon.

Santa Claus and the team’s mascots will also be available for photos.

The event is presented by the Jimmy Fund Council of Greater Boston and features a buffet lunch, sports memorabilia sale, opportunity drawing, silent auction and bowling. Tickets are available in advance for $89 per person, which includes one autograph from all attending Red Sox players, lunch buffet, and one guest ticket.
