I’m still having a hard time believing Jose Fernandez is really dead… and I never even met him. I can’t even begin to imagine how the news of his passing is affecting his teammates, friends and family members.
Monte Irvin (1919-2016)
Hall of Famer Monte Irvin passed away yesterday at the age of 96.
Before the way was opened for Irvin to play Major League Baseball, he was a Newark Eagle.

Tommy Hanson, 1986-2015
Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson died Monday night after suffering “catastrophic organ failure,” WSB-TV of Atlanta reports. He was only 29.
“We are incredibly saddened to learn of Tommy’s tragic passing,” Atlanta Braves President John Schuerholz said in a statement on behalf of the team. “He was a favorite in the clubhouse and with our staff and he will truly be missed by everyone in Braves Country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, family, former teammates and friends.”
Carlos Diaz, 1958-2015
Ultimate Mets Database reported today that early 1980s Mets reliever Carlos Diaz passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sept. 28 at the age of 57. Diaz was part of the trade package that went to the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 1983 season to bring Sid Fernandez to New York.
