Off-season Mets news

Fernando Tatis won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award. This is obviously one that you hope that you’re never even in contention for, but Tatis had a nice year and really deserved it. Way to go, Fernando!

The Mets announced their 2009 coaching staff. Guy Conti is out as bullpen coach, replaced by Randy Niemann. This is significant only because it’s a clear signal that Pedro Martinez won’t be back next season. Pedro is a sure first ballot Hall of Famer, but it’s been painful to watch him struggle the past two seasons. The Mets also brought Razor Shines to coach third base, replacing Luis Aguayo.

Razor Shines is the best name ever. 😀

The Shea Stadium scoreboard, one of the things I liked about the place, has been demolished. 😦
