Mets spoil Nationals’ home opener

I’m really enjoying the first week of New York Mets baseball in 2018. Today, they spoiled the Washington Nationals’ home opener by beating them 8-2.

Michael Conforto returned from the disabled list and homered in his first start. Yoenis Cespedes hit his third home run of the season. Jay Bruce made his first home run of the year a grand slam. If Jacob deGrom didn’t quite have everything working, he battled and he got the outs when they really mattered.

I know the Mets are not going to keep up this pace to have a 135-27 season, but I’m gonna enjoy this run while it lasts.

Odds and ends

MAB Celebrity Services’ final New Jersey autograph show of 2011 is this weekend, at the Fairfield Crowne Plaza, 690 Route 46 East.

Today’s guests are all from football, basketball or boxing; tomorrow’s lineup features mostly baseball players. Former New York Mets Dwight Gooden and Eddie Murray are scheduled to sign autographs from 11 a.m. – noon on Sunday. Gooden’s signature will cost $30, while pricing for Murray starts at $89.

Other guests scheduled to attend the show include Hall of Famers Andre Dawson, Rod Carew, Tony Gwynn, Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson.

I’m not planning to go to this show, since I’m not particularly interested in any of the guests at the prices being charged and money is always tight around the holidays. If you go, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the show.
