A few recent additions to my New York Mets baseball card collection.
Here are some more 1970s Mets cards from Anthony:
Tommie Agee was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 2002. He hit one of the longest home runs in Shea Stadium history, which was commemorated with a marker halfway up section 48 of the left field upper deck.
In the 1969 playoffs, Agee hit two home runs against the Braves in the LCS and led off Game 3 of the World Series with another homer. He made two highlight-reel catches in that game, too.
In 1970, he hit .286 with 24 home runs and 74 RBI and won a Gold Glove. The Mets finished with an 83-79 record, in third place.
My latest pick to spotlight is this 1969 print of center fielder Tommie Agee.
In 1969, Citgo Oil Company sponsored a series of eight art prints of the stars of the Miracle Mets. In addition to Agee, pitchers Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman and Gary Gentry, outfielder Cleon Jones, catcher Jerry Grote, second baseman Ken Boswell and first baseman Ed Kranepool were also included.
The artwork was done by John Wheeldon, a noted portrait artist.
At the moment, this auction has no bids. For just $12.95, you could start your own collection of Citgo prints.
Today’s installment of eBay Watch focuses on some signed Mets items that caught my eye.
A pair of game-used batting gloves, signed by Ryan Church, went for $26.77.
An authentic white Mets home jersey signed by Carlos Beltran sold for the bargain price of $88. It includes a certificate of authenticity from Steiner Sports.
