Four Hall of Famers to finish my 1974 Mets team set

I finished my 1974 Topps Mets team set last week, thanks to the help of Anthony, who I met last year at a Newark Bears game.

He sent me the last three cards I was missing, which all feature Hall of Fame members.

An unbelievable win for the diehards

Games like today’s 8-6 Mets’ come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals are why I keep watching.

Thanks to a rain delay that held up the start of the game for more than two hours, I was home in time to see the last few innings. When I turned on SNY, Chris Capuano was already out of the game, the Mets were down 4-1 and Nick Evans was hitting into an inning-ending double play. I thought about flipping the channel, but I changed my mind because there are only six more Mets games left before the start of winter.

It got worse before it got better; Josh Stinson and Daniel Ray Herrera combined to put the Mets in a 6-1 hole. I kept watching anyway, because you never know what might happen.

I was rewarded with an improbable 9th inning comeback – the last time the Mets came back from a bigger deficit that late on the road, Willie Mays had the game-winning hit.

eBay Watch: Mets autographs for the week ending Oct. 25

Today’s installment of eBay Watch focuses on some signed Mets items that caught my eye.

6309_1 A pair of game-used batting gloves, signed by Ryan Church, went for $26.77.

 

 

 

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA         An authentic white Mets home jersey signed by Carlos Beltran sold for the bargain price of $88. It includes a certificate of authenticity from Steiner Sports.

 

 

06e0_1Some recent certified autograph cards:  A 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings Johan Santana “green” autograph, number 5/5, went for $29.57. A 2007 Topps Triple Threads Jose Reyes card, #30/75, went for $28. A 2003 Bowman Jose Reyes autograph sold for $19.49. A Ray Knight autograph from the newly-released Topps Updates & Highlights Mets Ring of Honor insert set sold for $32.01.
